>“Hidden Passages: Tales to Honor the Crones is a book destined to become a classic.”— Lillith ThreeFeathers, columnist and feature writer for If Journal.

“I truly love Hidden Passages: Tales to Honor the Crones. I have two daughters, ages 16 and 12, who are reading it now! This is a book that women of all ages can enjoy and relate to in so many ways!”— Shay L. Stringer

Excerpt

“Tichu considered what the women had said. The fire festered like a wound, melting the snow around its base to a sickly oozing slush. Sitting cross-legged, the women waited, still as ice, unwilling to disturb her reflection. At last she drew her hand from Harugi’s, kissed the Crone on both her cheeks, and rose to speak. ‘When I die,’ she poked her chest fiercely with her finger, ‘it will be in Grandmother Spider’s arms, not on the end of a spear.’ Her voice, sharp as flint, chiseled between her clenched teeth.” Hidden Passages: Tales to Honor the Crones , p. 179

Forest Song: Finding Home is the story of Judy Baumann’s struggle to escape to her true home in the woods and to grow into her power there. A cast of magical characters, including a wise woman and the woman’s consort, help the girl in this enterprise. The story, situated between Germany and Poland, begins in 1929 and ends in 1933 when Judy becomes a woman.

Reviews

Forest Song: Finding Home sings indeed—with verbal imagery and plot turns that keep you eager for every morsel.” —Jim McConkey, author of Journey to the Far Side of Earth

Forest Song: Finding Home is a book not to be missed by maiden, mother, or crone. SpiderHawk has done it again! One more MUST read that will become a classic.” —Helen Collins, creator, editor, and publisher of Folk Music Ministry Magazine

Excerpt

“My first memory is of the forest’s call. Oh, no, it wasn’t the wind in the trees or the splashing of rain against arthritic trunks. Those sounds were there, in their proper seasons, along with the singing of the birds by day and the chirping of the crickets at night. But there was something else curling through all that, wispy and fragile, that I sometimes could not catch, something as sweet as wistfulness that would whisper near my ear as I lay in my bed.” Forest Song: Finding Home , p. 12

Forest Song: Little Mother is the second of the Forest Song series and continues Judy Baumann’s story. In this episode, Judy reluctantly moves from her teacher’s house into a home of her own. From there she helps the forest denizens hide Jewish refugees fleeing Nazi Germany and in the process discovers sexual love. In the end she becomes a mother in an unconventional way.

Reviews

Forest Song: Little Mother is a truly beautiful book and one which Vila’s fans will be clamoring to own. Those of you who have not had “The SpiderHawk Experience”, should do so now! You will be thrilled with your book.—Jo Gray, Author of Tails from the Cat Basket

Forest Song: Little Mother is magnificent. I could not stop reading it! This is a book all women should read…—Dawn Thomas, editor of Oracle ezine

Excerpt

Slanting through tree bones, the late afternoon sun gilded the decaying leaves. The woods were as silent as the flat cardboard trees Bożena’s class had erected for their version of Swan Lake. Only my crunching disturbed the forest’s peace. I stopped often to listen to the quiet. At ease in the golden pocket of time where nothing of the war could distract me, I plucked a rosary of random thoughts from my mind and idly fondled them. Forest Song: Little Mother, p. 205

Daily Joke

CHRISTMAS WITH LOUISE

As a joke, my brother used to hang a pair of panty hose over his fireplace before Christmas. He said all he wanted was for Santa to fill them. What they say about Santa checking the list twice must be true because every Christmas morning, although Jay's kids' stockings were overflowed, his poor pantyhose hung sadly empty.

One year I decided to make his dream come true. I put on sunglasses and went in search of an inflatable love doll. They don't sel

Reviews of Forest Song: Little Mother

REVIEW: In Forest Song: Little Mother by Vila Spiderhawk we have a little bit of everything for everyone. It combines history, adventure and fantasy all in one great book. It has so much detail that you feel you are a part of the book when they are doing a ritual or are one of the Crones riding on the wind. You could even smell the pine used to use for the floors of Judy’s magical house. It made you feel proud to be Polish and that you were helping the Jews survive the Holocaust.

Draw me a picture!

Hey guess what! I’ve come up with the idea of doing a 2011 Forest Song: Finding Home calendar, but I need illustrations. I thought it might be fun to have YOU, the people who have read my books, pick a character that sings to you and draw (or paint) an illustration of how you visualize that person. Please send your illustrations to vilaspiderhawk@vilaspiderhawk.com.

Of course, I have a deadline. I need all illustrations in by 15 February in order to do everything I need to do to have this baby… Continue

Hidden Passages by Vila Spiderhawk is a set of small stories about a woman’s milestones in life. For example: birth, child, parent and death. The author pulls you into the storyline with great depth. For instance, you can imagine and almost smell the herbs. You can also feel the character thoughts and feeling in the last short story as she goes through birth to death. It w

Review of Forest Song Cookbook

A 5th grader asked her mother the age-old question, 'How did I get here?'

Her mother told her, 'God sent you.'

'Did God send you, too?' asked the child.

'Yes, Dear,' the mother replied.

'What about Grandma and Grandpa?' the child persisted

'He sent them also,' the mother said.

'Did he send their parents, too?' asked the child.

'Yes, Dear, He did,' said the mother patiently.

OH WHAT FUN IT IS TO RIDE
IN A RUSTY HOLDEN UTE

Engine's getting hot
Dodge the kangaroos
Swaggy climbs aboard
He is welcome too
All the family is there
Sitting by the pool
Christmas day, the Aussie way
By the barbecue!

Grandpa has a doze
The kids and uncle Bruce

The time comes round to go
We take a family snap
Then pack the car and all shoot through

Notes

NOVEMBER/DECEMBER~WITCHCRAFT 100

These two months are usually very busy for all of us so I'm not on the Network as much as normal. I just checked the Witchcraft 100 and we're Number 1 in the ranking. If you have time to Vote, please do.

Also if you find anything on the Network that you feel doesn't belong here, please let me know because I might miss something when I visit. I try to go through everything as much as possible when I'm here but there's always a chance that I might miss something.
